Rebecca Menashe
I am an artist, educator, and lifelong lover of nature. I currently teach visual arts at SULA MS 322, a vibrant and diverse middle school in Manhattan. With over eight years of experience in both public and charter schools, I’ve had the privilege of guiding students through creative exploration and artistic growth. Certified to teach K–12, I am deeply committed to nurturing the unique voices of young artists across New York City. I hold two master’s degrees from Lehman College — an MFA in Painting and a Master’s in Art Education. My teaching is rooted in the belief that art empowers students to express themselves, engage with their communities, and connect more deeply with the world around them.
As an artist, my work spans painting, drawing, clay, and sculpture, with a focus on capturing the deeper emotional and psychological landscapes of my subjects. My portraits are windows into the inner worlds of people, revealing their thoughts, emotions, and complex truths. Recently, I’ve been drawn to the trees of Van Cortlandt Park, exploring their knots, twists, and textures as metaphors for human resilience, complexity, and beauty.
As an educator, my passion lies in inspiring students to think critically, create boldly, and embrace the transformative power of art. I love introducing my students to the vast world of creativity, whether it’s through visits to the Metropolitan Museum of Art or exploring contemporary art forms. This year, I was proud to see four of my students recognized at the PS Art exhibitions and the Manhattan Borough Arts Festival.
In everything I do, whether in the studio or the classroom, I am committed to creating spaces where creativity thrives — joyful, meaningful, and inclusive. It’s my belief that art is a powerful tool for self-expression and connection, and I am honored to share that journey with my students and the greater artistic community.
